Psychiatry consultation room at Clínica da Vila

What it is

Psychiatry is the medical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions. At Clínica da Vila, it's a medical appointment, but never an isolated one — we work as a team with clinical psychology, child psychology, speech therapy and nutrition, because what affects the mind rarely affects the mind alone.

Every treatment plan is built around the person in front of us. In some cases, the most appropriate approach is purely psychotherapeutic; in others, it makes sense to add medication. Either way, it's never a decision made in a rush, or without explanation.

How it works

  1. 01

    First appointment · assessment

An extended 50–60 minute conversation to get to know your history, symptoms and context. At the end, we'll share our diagnostic impression and propose a plan.

  2. 02

    Treatment plan

May include psychotherapy, medication or both, always explained in clear language, with benefits, alternatives and effects to watch for.

  3. 03

    Follow-up appointments

30–40 minute sessions to assess progress, adjust treatment and answer questions. Frequency adapted to the stage of treatment.

  4. 04

    Working with the team

Whenever it makes sense, we coordinate with your psychologist, speech therapist, family doctor or nutritionist, so that care stays coherent.

  5. 05

    Stabilisation and discharge

Once stable, appointments become less frequent, and when indicated, we plan tapering off medication and clinical discharge together.
